In Explottens, we had to develop over 250 different sound effects and three soundtracks to engage the player in this fast paced shooter.

For the boss music we went for a bad-ass rock and roll style, with punchy drums and a powerfull guitar. We thought this would give the player the energy boost he needs to complete these tough tasks. We also created a cool intro sound for each boss, so we could give them the majestic intro they deserve.

We wanted to take it relatively easy on one of the gameplay musics we were hired to do, as we and the dev team aggreed that, besides fueling the player through the game, he would hear it too much to make something as punchy as the boss theme.

Sound effects were quite challenging as there is a lot of things going on in the game simultaneously - shoots, power ups, explosions... Implementation was the key to create a pleasurable experience to the player, giving some sounds sonic importance over others. For example, sounds that give the player gameplay information had priority over others, and mixing them together was a intriguing quest.
